Counting collections
This week in math we read about the MaSloppy's, a messy family, who learns from one of children that organizing and counting can make life much easier! The students began organizing our math supplies. We began by sorting out linker cubes. The students recorded their counting in our new counting collections book. During our math workshop the students also got to play "an old favorite" from last year, double compare, to practice facts to 20. Students also got to play favorite games on the website ictgames.com.

Everyone counts!
After reading the book Everyone Counts the 2nd graders spent the first few weeks of school filling a jar full of safe, achieving and caring behavior. We first estimated how many cubes we thought were in the jar by looking for groups of 10. Then several students worked together to count the total number of cubes we earned. The second graders counted groups of 10 and then made groups of 100. The total number of cubes equaled 245 cubes. We celebrated having a special snack. The students are now working on filling an even bigger jar!
Tech Savy math students
This week during math we reviewed the rules and expectations for using technology. The students also read & signed a contact. The students are eager to get practicing basic skills using our favorite websites sumdog & ict games. In addition we are so excited to begin using the I-pads!
